Hi!
I am Kara, Owner of Branch and Bramble.
About four years ago, while sitting in bed browsing Floret’s Erin Benzakein’s website, I asked Andrew, my then fiancé, now husband,
“Hey, what do you think about starting a flower farm?”
As someone who can barely keep houseplants alive, he looked at me like I was a complete lunatic. At 28 years old, I had accomplished allot in my career, putting in the work and quickly climbing the corporate ladder to two great leadership positions, one in marketing/business development and another in event management/production, which is where I found my love for floristry. Andrew was still hard at work pursuing his career with the fire department. Quitting my job to start a farm seemed like a ridiculous plan, but boy did it look fun.
A year or so later, Andrew landed his dream job as a firefighter/paramedic and we moved into a little yellow house on 8 acres in Cottage Grove with a beautiful stream right next to us. We built a small 30 x 30 plot with a few raised beds and tried this flower thing on as a side gig. Besides a few urban farm classes I took in college, I knew very little about farming and nothing about flowers. Thanks to the pandemic, I began to work my job from home and spent every spare moment I had researching everything there was to know about growing flowers. The rest of my time was spent in the garden, bewildered by the seed to stem process. The garden became my happy place and my inspiration.
In May of 2021, with the unwavering support of my husband, I made the difficult decision to quit my “big girl job” and give up the position that I had worked so hard to obtain. The passion was there all along, but I had to wait for my courage to catch up. Life is too short to ignore your calling if you are lucky enough to have one. With lots of hard work and support from our friends and family, what was once a pipeline dream became Branch and Bramble, a flourishing 1/4 acre family flower farm and floral design studio. We had an amazing first season!
In January of 2022, we found our growing family was getting too big for our home in Cottage Grove and moved our lives and our little farm to the beautiful Marcola, Oregon! Currently, we are working to reestablish our farm on our new property. Slowly but surely!
This year, the wedding side of our business unexpectedly exploded! YAY! We are so lucky to have an INCREDIBLE network of great farms around us to source beautiful product from. We currently lean heavily on them as well as our wholesaler to keep up with demand and bring our clients beautiful florals.
Our dream for Branch and Bramble is to make our little slice of earth a place of happiness, light, love, community, and purpose and to spread beauty and joy through flowers.
Thanks for joining us on this journey!
